In this review

A belly dance veil choreography is clearly taught in Belly Dance by Sandra Vol 3 Choreography Classic Veil Intro.

A classic belly dance veil choreography is an important prologue to a solo belly dance performance.  A belly dance veil choreograph is highly structured, showcases your dance skills, and sets the relationship with your audience for your entire performance. Done properly, the veil intro touches a wide range of styles and rhythmic changes, demonstrating your knowledge and mastery of belly dance fundamentals.

The Belly Dance by Sandra Vol 3 Choreography Classic Veil Intro video builds up step by step into a complete choreography. The result is a comprehensive roadmap to including a classic veil intro into your own belly dance solo.

Sandra explains not just the techniques, but also their grounding in anatomy, muscle control, and internal visualization. By breaking down complex movements into simple transitions, Sandra clarifies isolations and makes them accessible to a wide range of dancer skill levels.

The production quality is high as with all Cheeky Girls Production videos. The audio and video is clear and even.

Belly Dance Veil Choreography

The choreography is suitable to nightclubs and parties. The classic Middle Eastern song has a melodic line varied rhythms and pace suitable for slow moves and shimmies. The choreography consists of the veil intro, taxsim, shimmy, Saidi, and dynamic finale sections.

Each section is first taught in a detailed, technique breakdown. Then the section has a practice time with several repetitions to music.  One practice repetition is sometimes a closer view to offer a different perspective. After each new section, there is also a “From the Top” practice which covers all the previous sections too, which is a fantastic way to learn a choreography.

She does count most of the choreography sections.  The camera view from behind Sandra allows you to see the movements from the rear and from the front in her reflection in a wall to wall mirror.

Her technique is excellent and her cues clear.  She has a pleasant tone and demeanor. When she teaches a choreography section she goes through the section multiple times pointing out different techniques and tips each time.

Choreography Section 1 (Veil)

Sandra says the veil choreography is simple, which allows the dancer to improvise if she feels like it during the performance. The veil choreography is basically just a short entrance of about one minute. The veil moves fit the music perfectly. She sometimes calls veil moves by names and other times not.

Choreography Section 2

This is a taksim after dropping the veil to the ground. Lots of snake arms and undulations. It’s a short, pretty section.

Choreography Section 3

The instrumental section is dominated by a kanun matched to shimmies. The kanun is an Arabic string instrument.

Choreography Section 4

This is repeat of the previous slinky, taxsim section, except this time the accents are hit with undulations and an optional drop to the ground.

Choreography Section 5

This is a bouncy Saidi section that contrasts with the previous taxsim and goes bouncy. This choreography uses the familiar down-up down-down-up hip drops and shoulder shimmies with level changes.

Choreography Section 6

This is a transition to the end. It’s faster with lots of accent as the choreography approaches the ending sections.

Choreography Section 7

This section repeats twice starting with a ¾ shimmy either on the up or down. She has several unique, but simple combos that rely on good posture and elegant arm movements.

Choreography Section 8

This is the finale, which is mostly turns and a dramatic final pose. This part of the choreography is very fast.

Belly Dance Veil Choreography Performance

Sandra’s performance is on stage and is slightly modified from the choreography she taught to be more improvisational and adapted to the large stage she performs on. This is a complete performance in which the veil choreography is only the first part of the entire choreography taught. This performance is from the For Dancers by Dancers Vol II DVD.

Dancer Skill Level – Intermediate

The choreography is suited to an intermediate or advanced dancer.  Sandra goes at a good clip, which is too fast for a beginner who isn’t familiar with some of the moves used in the choreography.

DVD Review Rating – 5 Stars

We give this video a rating of 5 stars because it has a belly dance veil choreography that is short, sweet and flows into a complete 5 minute solo choreography. Sandra thoroughly breaks down each move with attention to proper technique. Sandra is a skilled teacher as well as a very talented dancer. We especially love the tons of practice you get from all the “From the Top” repeats after each section is added.

For dancers looking to learn a longer belly dance veil choreography, we recommend Belly Dance with Veil by Sarah Skinner.
